DIEGO BAÑUELOS

Born in 1979, Diego Bañuelos began his violin studies under the guidance of Mrs. Yuriko Kuronuma at age six. Four years latter he was selected, along with ten other students, to participate in a concert tour around Japan that included a private performance for Emperor Akihito. In his native Mexico City, he has offered several recitals in some of the most prestigious halls. He has also given master classes in several Mexican cities.

Diego Banuelos holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where he studied with Mr. Charles Treger. While at this institution, he was awarded five scholarships that included the Dean’s Merit Award, and the Julian Olevsky Scholarship (awarded to the most remarkable violin student of the year). He also received a scholarship for studies abroad, awarded by the government of Mexico.

Having Mr. Joseph Genualdi as his principal teacher, Mr. Banuelos obtained a Master’s degree at DePaul University, in Chicago, where he was also a member of the Civic Orchestra. As a member of this ensemble he had the opportunity to play under the baton of conductors of such stature as Daniel Baremboim, Pierre Boulez and Christopher Eschenbach.

In May 2005, under the guidance of Prof. Vartan Manoogian, Mr. Banuelos completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he also pursued a distributed minor in Mathematics and Physics.
